Local Authority Sector-Led Improvement

The SDSA has many years experience and expertise supporting regional groups of local authorities to develop joint improvement strategies based upon a sector led model.

Working very closely with children’s services and adult social care the SDSA supports the executive directors in the local authorities to design and deliver an annual programme of sector led improvement. This includes self-assessment, data analysis and diagnosis of improvement priorities. Joint improvement plans articulate the areas of greatest need; workshops and seminars are provided to learn from best practice in priority themes. Peer challenge plays a central role, whereby mixed groups of fellow professionals from other local authority areas undertake analytical reviews within a host authority to probe areas of improvement or specific lines of inquiry. The SDSA also facilitates many specialist network groups that bring together directors, assistant directors and heads of service in a professional learning environment related to their joint improvement priorities.
